New Delhi: Khajuraho, located in Madhya Pradesh, is a group of temples built between 950-1050 AD. The temples consist of stunning displays of fine sculptures and exceptional architectural skill, making them one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India. There is also Gwalior in the state, a place best known for its imposing hilltop fort, which was famously described as ‘the pearl amongst fortresses in India’.

Last but not least, there is Orchha, a historic town nestled on the banks of river Betwa and was founded in the 16th century by the Bundela Rajput Chief, Rudra Pratap. All these make Madhya Pradesh extremely popular among tourists. And that is why, the IRCTC has introduced a tour package covering these important and significant places in the state.

Features of the state

  • The name of the tour package is Royal Madhya Pradesh and the journey will start from Mumbai.
  • The duration of the journey is five nights and six days and it will begin every Tuesday.

The cost of the package per person

  • For one person, the cost is Rs 40,800.
  • For two people, the cost is Rs 24,300.
  • For three people, the cost is Rs 23,100.

The itinerary of the tour

  • Day 1: The tourists will depart from Mumbai and will spend the night on the train.
  • Day 2: The train will reach Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi Railway Station and the tourists will go to a hotel from there. Later, they will visit the Khajuraho Temples and spend the night in that area.
  • Day 3: The tourists will leave the hotel and proceed to Orchha and will see Laxmi Narayan Temple, Chaturbhuj Temple, Ram Raja Temple, and Jahangir Mahal on the way.
  • Day 4: The tourists will proceed to Gwalior and visit Gwalior Fort and Tansen’s Tomb. They will spend the night at Gwalior.
  • Day 5: The tourists will visit the Jai Vilas Palace, Gurjari Mahal and Mitawali Padavali. They will go to Gwalior Railway Station later to board the return train. They will reach Mumbai on the next day.
