Anime streaming platform Crunchyroll is taking a cue from Netflix’s playbook, adding five Android mobile games for two of its paid subscriber tiers without an extra charge, Crunchyroll announced Tuesday.
Crunchyroll’s Game Vault is offering five titles for its gaming debut, spanning the action, RPG, puzzle, and visual novel genres. Crunchyroll plans to offer iOS support for its Game Vault soon, according to the announcement.
Here’s a look into the games Crunchyroll Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan subscribers can now play.
Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions
Crunchyroll is now offering the mobile version of Captain Velvet Meteor, a tactical action game that follows the adventures of a 10-year-old boy, Damien, who moves to Japan. Damien becomes the game’s namesake hero, who must solve challenges, defeat enemies, and complete quests while battling aliens. Captain Velvet Meteor has an anticipated Steam release date for sometime in 2024. Until then, it’s on Game Vault for free.
River City Girls
River City Girls is an action fighting game with a pixelated Japanese aesthetic that was first released on Steam for PC players in 2019 to “Very Positive” reviews. While the game is chock-full of physical violence, River City Girls offers a non-gory fighting game that focuses more on bringing comic book-style animations to schoolgirl combat. Crunchyroll’s Mega Fans and Ultimate Fans tier subscribers can get River City Girls on mobile.
Wolfstride
Wolfstride is a black-and-white single-player RPG with lots of quirky characters and dialogue catered to adult audiences, thanks to a narrative filled with curse words and former criminals that’s paired with devious mech-fighting. While the game first released on Steam in 2021, its mobile version is now part of Crunchyroll’s Game Vault.
Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery
Behind the Frame is an indie visual novel game where players can follow the main story of an artist. Seeing the world through her point of view, players can sketch and paint in a world inspired by the likes of Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, according to a statement from Crunchyroll.
Inbento
Like its name suggests, Inbento is a food-focused puzzle game. In it, players can complete over 120 different pattern-matching puzzles. Each puzzle is a lunch box waiting to be completed. Oh, and there are cats. This game also received “Very Positive” user reviews on Steam, and now the mobile version is available to Crunchyroll subscribers on those two tiers.
