Bhubaneswar: The state government has banned drone cameras at venues where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit in Sambalpur on Saturday. Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the permanent campus of IIM, Sambalpur and lay the foundation stones of several projects. Besides, he would address a public rally near Remed Chhak.
Chief secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena on Thursday held a high-level preparatory meeting to ensure a smooth conduct of Modi’s events.Development commissioner Anu Garg and director general of police Arun Kumar Sarangi, among other senior officers, attended the meeting.
“Drone cameras will not be allowed at any of the venues, including the Jharsuguda airport and Sambalpur helipad, as part of the PM’s security protocol. The Special Protection Group (SPG) does not want drone cameras to fly over the PM since it may pose a security hazard,” a senior government officer said.
Official sources said the SPG sensed a threat to the PM’s security when a drone camera shot his visit to Bahanaga in Balasore district on June 3, a day after the triple train tragedy that claimed 296 lives.
Sources said Modi is likely to arrive in Jharsuguda airport around 1.30 pm and leave for Sambalpur on a helicopter.
